8/8 Status Update, and a few 2.1 features...August 9, 2025Original Post
Greetings from CMCDEV!
It's been awhile, yet again...
We didn't quite have much planned for today, so we'd like to showcase some of the upcoming features within Ghosts & Japes 2.1.
It is not a comprehensive list, but it should give you a few ideas of what to expect...
- Arcade cabinets with rewards for playing well, and spooky (or cute) jump scares for if you fail terribly!
- New enemies!
- New items!
- Controller support!
- Additional language support! (Note, we do not provide actual translations, it simply has support for them...)
- A weird inventory system! Japes, don't you know that metal isn't edible?! Japes?!?!
- A menu to see and manage the upgrades you have acquired!
- And _______!
It will likely take a good little while before the update is ready for release, as there are many things we would like to add, and polish.
... And because we are currently busy with moving...
We hope to release it as soon as we can! We want you all to be able to play it, too!!

Ghosts & Japes 2.0 Release!September 30, 2024Original Post
Lost in the woods, rain pours down. Nightfall setting in...
And as an eerie fog rolls in, seeping into your being; A faint light gleams between the trees.
In Ghosts & Japes, you will explore a cursed house... Fighting(?) ghosts, collecting treasure, and trying to survive as long as possible.
FEATURES:
A slightly less pathetic protagonist!
- Hungry Ghosts! (Obviously.)
- A spooky cursed house with procedurally generated floor layouts!
- Unique floor themes!
- Traps to avoid!
- Shinies! A lot of items forcing you to part with your shinies...
- Plenty of dialogue to get distracted by while fighting for your life!
- A Ghostiary to see who you've encountered, track completion, and replay against them! (Features a music player, too.)
- Achievements!
- 3 Difficulty settings!
- Toggleable save-deletion mode for any difficulty.
- Moddability built in! (Add your own ghosts, sounds, room designs, player sprites)
- A LOT OF DOCUMENTATION!

Ghosts & Japes 2.0 Paintings DeadlineJuly 30, 2024Original Post
Hello everyone! As work on 2.0 continues and the release edges closer, we felt a need to catch up on things, and soon close off paintings as tier rewards. (As once G&J 2.0 comes out, it would be important to be able to focus purely on CharcuterieMINI.)
We'd like to thank all of our current (and past) supporters!
If, by chance, we have missed responding, or have failed to contact you about the painting offer and you had subscribed to a membership of "Slightly larger Slime", (Or higher)
or if you had subscribed in the past, and have since cancelled said subscription;
(You don't have to re-subscribe, the offer is still available. Apologies for the delay...!)

The deadline for accepting any further paintings will be on 8/8. (Haha, funny date.)

While the original plan was to move back to MINI directly after releasing Ghosts & Japes, there was such a lovely reception for it that we felt the need to improve the game.
So, here's some of what we've got so far.
• Per-floor rooms! (Now every floor type has unique rooms to explore! We went from 84 rooms spread across every floor, to 53 rooms PER floor... Adding up to ~530 unique rooms to explore.)
• Traps, Decals, and extra decorations! (Shown above, each floor type has their own decals, traps, and decorative placements. Fun for room-makers!) Don't get cooked!
(I wish I had a life-sized Honeybun plushie...)
• New Ghosts! Revamped Ghosts! (The number of ghosts has nearly doubled. Not all are shown here... Older Ghosts have had various things added to them...)
• New Floor themes! (But they're a secret, so have these keys...)
(Ok maybe one...)
• Extra Difficulties! (Easy mode is easier than the current game, Normal mode is equivalent, Hardcore mode is more difficult than current.
Floor 1 will always have one less active ghost so the learning curve is less steep.
Permadeath is now toggleable for any difficulty by pressing "F")
• Many new items! (Japes has a gun watch out!!)
• ??? (Cammy?? What are you doing in jail?!)
• Various miscellaneous additions...! (Like prettier rain.)
• A really detailed picture of the mansion for some reason???
• Hey wait a minute, you're not Kaishi.
• A whole new sequencing system for in-depth ghostly animations! (I can't really explain it all here, but it allows for various things like randomly choosing animations to play, playing them in order and looping the final sequence forever, or playing each sequence in a loop. Various things in the eat sequence are modifiable, such as how much damage they do, what type of damage, the sound that plays, whether you're even allowed to escape...)
• ... And much more that I don't have room to write about...!
Look forward to it by the end of this Summer...

Hello again! It's certainly been a little while since the last MINI update.
We thought about the current name of the game, and thought it was a little tacky... So, LifeisweirdMINI, and by extension Lifeisweird (The eventual full version.), are going to be called by a new name.
That name being... CharcuterieMINI, and Charcuterie.
We've been at work on some new systems for CharcuterieMINI, but didn't want to break anything while testing them.
... So we made another game for everyone to try!
Think of it as the appetizer.
Many of the features within this game will be used in some way within Charcuterie...

End-of-year Status Update (2023)January 1, 2024Original Post
The year has come and gone! Welcome 2024!
You may want a pair of earplugs, Mia found the wine bottles.
2023 has been eventful, with much planning and work done to get this project rolling.
We've been working hard at a bunch of key components for MINI since the last Status Update.
Attached are a few GIFs of our progress, as well as the upcoming music track for the Jungle level! (And the Ocean level song!)
We're working on some new creatures to face, the Options menu is feature complete, we have a fancier multiplayer/controls selection screen, Hats have been added, Emote wheels have made an appearance, and the End-of-Level Scoreboard is functional! (If you finish in 1st place, you get a cool hat in the next level)
There have been a ton of under-the-hood improvements, and many balance changes.
I hope everyone has had a very pleasant year, we'll keep you all updated on our progress in this upcoming year as well.

CharcuterieMINI Status Update + Thank you!December 10, 2023Original Post
It's been awhile since our last status update, and we're sure you're all hungry for more news of progress.
But first we'd like to thank you all for the immense amount of support you've given us in the short span of us showing off the game.
We hadn't anticipated the sudden influx of supporters and it was quite scary but also very cool!
While all the new attention may startle us, we're very grateful for the support.

On to the game news!
We're still working on the next update, but it is going to take a good while.
Much of the work for the next update is technical changes and quality improvements.
We're working on adding a scoreboard when you finish a level with your allies. Attached is a rough design mockup for it.
The scoreboard will keep track of certain things you and your teammates do throughout gameplay, to offer a simultaneously competitive AND co-operative experience.
And we have a new character as well.
You may already be familiar with them!
Meet Naru!
She's a Mochi-Rabbit.
She loves ice cream, and can pelt enemies with it too!
Naru is a character owned by RIORAO, and will be making a cameo appearance as a playable character.
You may also notice two other characters in the first image, those being Miwi and Riley.
Both will also be playable.
There is currently no release date for the demo, but we will keep you updated as we get closer to it!
